Magazine Idea 1

This is my draft idea for our soap opera magazine poster. I have looked at existing soap opera magazines and used my research to develop this, following conventions.

This magazine includes the two main characters for the first few episodes - Ben and Rachel. It also involves smaller storylines within the soap in smaller boxes to also give the reader an insight into other narratives. Other conventions of a magazine are included- the magazine's title, selling line, price tag, barcode and cover lines.

This will assist us in the development of our real magazine, as having a rough idea to start out with will help the process be more efficient and more thought will have been put into things, such as layout and key elements needed.

Poster Idea 1

This is an individual idea for our soap opera poster, out of several others created by other members in my group. Different ones have been made to gather seperate ideas based on the research we have gathered. This helps to improve the development of our poster and helps us make sure we follow conventions.

The focus of this poster design is Ben and Rachel, stood back to back. This is a common convention of soap opera posters and clearly connotes how they are against each other. The tag line 'Will Ben Fall for Rachel's Tricks?' is used to draw the viewer in and make them curious about the soap. A prop is used - Rachel is holding money. This is used to connote various things about her character and the narrative, such as bribery, bragging and trickery. Information about the name of the soap as well as where when it will be shown is included; it will be shown on Channel 4 (as seen by the logo) and the name of the soap is Maple Way. The logo for the soap opera name is in the style of a street sign, to also bring about connotations of a street, the people on it and to show a sense of community.

Poster Idea 2

This is my second idea for our soap opera poster.

Changes of this in comparison to the first poster is that it is more conventional to that of Channel 4 posters, with the way the text and logo is shown. The characters poses are also different and uses different symbolisation to the other poster - it is more to do with Rachel watching over Ben and being in control of him. I have also been more specific with the text and date as we now know more details.

By developing ideas further, we're able to be better prepared when it comes to taking photos for the poster and so we have a clearer plan when it comes to editing the poster together.
